By: Reign Mesina

Have you ever visited Tangalan? If not, then let me take you on a tour of the places located in this municipality.

Tangalan offers many spots and attractions you might love. Places you might visit there are Agfa Wave Rock Formation, Jawili Falls, St. John Nepomucene Parish Church, Afga Lighthouse, Pizza Dos, and many more.

So what are you waiting for? If you are looking for a stress-relieving place, then Tangalan is the perfect place for you.

1. Afga Wave Formation

The first tourist spot I suggest if you visit Tangalan is the Agfa Wave Rock Formation. Before going there, you will drive northwest from Tangalan along the coastal road until you reach a crossing with a directional sign to the village of Agfa. You’ll arrive at a cove with a flat rock formation facing the Sibuyan Sea at the end of the tiny road.

There is a little fishing settlement and a few picnic cottages. It is recommended that you wear rubber shoes or sandals to avoid slipping on the rocks. Take a walk down the coast and enjoy the scenery.

2. Jawili Falls

The water of the falls remains to be chilly, transparent, and free of contaminants, with polite and accommodating staff ready to serve you.

Jawili falls is about a 45-minute bus trip from Kalibo, while there are lots of tricycles available from the public market. The falls is just a few meters away from the road. This seven-layer cascade is surrounded by nature houses, trees, and floral plants. The cool and pleasant setting surrounded by nature takes away the stress of city life, and not just for taking a dip at the pools.

3. St. John Nepomucene Parish Church

The one-hundred-year-old church is located at Brgy. Poblacion, Tangalan, Aklan and was constructed through hard and forced labor. It was completed after 28 years of suffering and sacrifices by the Tangalan people.

The system is known as Polo y Servicio, and it entails 40 days of forced work for men aged 16 to 60. But it becomes worse since they also compelled women and children. The system was used by practically every Spanish Colonial authority, including the Philippines.

4. Afga Point Lighthouse

Just head straight down the road so that we can move to our next tourist spot located in Tangalan, the Afga Lighthouse.

Afga Point Lighthouse, positioned up on a hill, is a modern-style lighthouse that acts as a guide to fishermen and mariners travelling by the village’s rugged coast. The lighthouse also provides an excellent view of the wide Jintolo Channel. Unfortunately, there are no tours or anything available at the lighthouse.
