Justice has not yet been served to the Maguad family as they mourn the death of two of their members who were allegedly murdered by three unidentified men in Purok San Isidro, Barangay Bagontapay, M’lang, North Cotabato Dec. 10, Friday.

The victims of the crime that happened at around 2 p.m. were identified as Crizzle Gwynn Maguad, 18, and Crizvlle Louis Maguad, 16, according to the report of M’lang Police Station. Meanwhile, Janice Maguad, 17, an adopted orphan of the family, managed to escape from the attack making her the lone survivor.

Janice, who is currently under the custody of the municipal Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD), told that she managed to hide and lock herself in a small room and was able to seek help on social media, revealing that unidentified men entered their residence, according to town police chief Major Realan Mamon.

The calls for help on social media of the 17-year-old female survivor reached the authorities, however, when they arrived, all they witnessed in the house were the lifeless bodies of the victims on the floor bathed in their own blood.

In a live interview with Sky Teleradyo M’lang, Cruz Maguad, father of the murdered siblings, recalls seeing pieces of broken bottles, butcher knife, baseball bat, frying pan, hammer, and electrical cord at the murder scene. According to Cruz, his son was gagged using the charger cord.

The possibility of a robbery was taken into account as the cabinets were left open while personal belongings were scattered throughout the house, yet it is unclear whether any property went missing.

Consequently, the town councils of M’lang and Tulunan on Saturday, offered a reward of Php 200,000 and Php 50,000, respectively, to find the perpetrators of the attack. Furthermore, M’lang Mayor Russel Abonado has promised a reward of an unspecified amount for the arrest of the offenders.

To expedite the case’ resolution, the provincial police office, on Monday, formed a special investigation task group (SITG) to delve deeper into the deaths of the two siblings.

The SITG aims to hasten the resolution of the crime by corroboration of evidence and statements of potential witnesses, according to Mamon.

Police Lt. Col. Bernard Tayong, spokesperson of the Cotabato provincial police office, said in an exclusive interview with Sky Teleradyo M’lang on Tuesday that the investigation is currently headed by Criminal Investigation and Detection Group (CIDG), supported by M’lang PNP, Cotabato Police Provincial Office, and other investigating agencies.

Tayong further stated that the Maguad siblings’ murder case is considered as 90% solved, however, he has not disclosed the crime’s motive, and instead will keep the vital information confidential for the time being.
