The 2022 elections in Aklan will be a face off between veterans and newcomer politicians as the Commission on Elections releases a general list of congressional and provincial candidates.
Ibajay Mayor Jose Enrique "Joen" Miraflores, the son of incumbent Governor Florencio Miraflores attempts to continue his dad's legacy.
He will face former Kalibo Mayor William Sucgang Lachica, Willie Tolentino, and Ray Amador Torres.
The candidates for Vice Governor are radio broadcaster Jonathan "Idol" Cabrera, SP member Atty. Immanuel "Nolly" Sodusta and incumbent Vice governor Reynaldo Quimpo.
Current congressman Carlito Marquez attempts to keep his seat in Aklan's Eastern District. Marquez will face former SP member Rodson Mayor, incumbent SP member Harry Sucgang, and Batan local chief executive Rodell Ramos.
Meanwhile, Teodorico "Nonong" T Haresco, Jr seeks for reelection as the congressman of the Western District in the next year’s election.
Haresco will face Former 47th IB PA spokesperson Matias Wacan, and Virgilita Pamatian.
There are 15 candidates running for members of the 1st district's Sangguniang Panlalawigan (SP), namely: incumbent Kalibo SB member Mark Ace Bautista, incumbent SP member Nemesio Neron, Andagao kagawad Condrad Indelible, Blasito Carillo, Apolinar Cleope, Atty. Axel Gonzales, Jethro Laserna, Geraldo Meduranda, Ramy Panagsagan, Chito Peralta, Mark Quimpo, Raul Sucgang, Joseph Pierre Teodosio, Engr. Jun Agravante, and Teddy Tupas.
The candidates for the second district's SP are incumbent SP member Jay Tejada, Jojo Cordova, Romeo Dalisay, Lucita de Asis Necor, Reynaldo Emperado, Jupiter Gallenero, Roberto Garcia Jr., Royden Perlas, Plaridel Solidum, Felicisimo Tanumtanum Jr., and Jonathan Vergara.
The National and Local Elections are set to be held on May 9, 2022.
