7 Places worth visiting for when you go to Malinao

The municipality of Malinao is a 4th class municipality in the province of Aklan. Malinao has always been revered for being the home of the heroes and for having unique traditions and cultures. Along with that, Malinao also offers a lot of spots that every Malinaonon considers as something to be proud of. To take advantage of its attractions, here are some places and destinations you shouldn’t miss to have a look and must try to visit. 


1. Lilo-an Dam

One of the most known destinations in Malinao is the Liloan Dam. Since it is very accessible, it comes as no surprise that many people visit this place. This place offers serenity brought by the surrounding trees and the gushing sounds of water illuminating a green hue flowing down from the dam. Many people usually go here to swim as it is safe and enjoyable. There is no wonder this place never fails to fascinate visitors as it offers a scenic view which is great for photography.



2. Tambayan sa Ganguhan & Paraya Hub

Tambayan sa Ganguhan and Paraya Hub is a unique attraction which is also located at Liloan, Malinao. This place is divided into two floors. On the first floor where Paraya Hub is located, the first thing that will catch your attention here is the big lettering of the quote “spread love” on the center. There are different collections that you can find here, which include the owner’s paintings (that are more on abstract and pop art) and many miniatures of iconic characters. This will give you the feeling of being in a mini-art gallery as it offers a set of exhibits, perfect for picture-taking.


On the other hand, the one located on the second floor is the Ganguhan. It hosts incredible artistic collections taken from the native environment, such as driftwoods. There are also some chandeliers made with scallops and wooden furniture that contribute to its vintage appearance. The overall decor has an attractive natural finish that makes the interior look rustic and oozing with character. The best time to visit this place is at night, as the displays are well lit, creating a cozy and nice ambience.



3. Secret Falls

If you’re looking for a thrilling experience, then Secret Falls is definitely an excellent option. Located in San Roque, Malinao, the falls hide in mountains which is probably the reason for its name. It may take you 20-30 minutes to walk through rivers and fields before you arrive at your destination, but all of that would be worthwhile as you finally witness the unexplored beauty of the hidden paradise. You will be greeted by the green surrounding, fresh breeze of air, and the cool water which is good for swimming. The said place consists of approximately 12 falls.


4. Taeangban Hills

One of the popular hills that a lot of people prefer to hike is the Taeangban Hills in Dangcalan, Aklan. You would first need to pass through a long walk before arriving at the hilltop. And when you get there, you will find yourself being surrounded and welcomed by the breathtaking scenery, a perfect spot to unwind. Up here, you’ll have an absolutely panoramic and picturesque view of fields and vibrant greeneries that will surely satisfy your eyes and will never let you leave without taking shots from your camera. 



5. Malinao Town Plaza

Malinao Town Plaza may be one of the most-visited places here in Malinao. This is typically a spot for casual hangouts with friends or families. People usually go here to perform outdoor activities according to their interests, such as jogging, exercising, biking, playing outdoor games, walking, or simply sitting, as this place provides areas to relax yourself for a moment. The place is refreshing, with the surrounding greenery always giving people the opportunity to have a fun picture-taking experience. It also offers a playground for children to enjoy. Moreover, there are also available food stalls around that you might suit your taste, while you have a wonderful time.


6. St. Joseph the Worker Parish Church

One of the oldest churches in the province of Aklan is the St. Joseph the Worker Parish Church, a Catholic Church in the town of Malinao. It was inaugurated in 1889 under the leadership of Father Francisco Gamboa Jayme. It has been declared by the National Historical Commission of the Philippines as a Historical Heritage, also recognized to be the first church in the province with an NHCP historical marker. This church is a witness of the Malinaonons’ rich culture, tradition, and history that molded their deeply religious traits and practices. Characterized by its smooth stone texture and color, the church can be described as pleasingly graceful with its simplistic appearance.



7. El Levantamiento de los 82 de Lilo-an Monument

Stands in Malinao Town Plaza is the monument of Candido Iban and the failed uprising called El Levantamiento de los 82 de Lilo-an. This is in honor of the memorable mark they left in the nation’s history. As a tribute to Malinaonon heroes, there’s a celebration also called “El Levantamiento de los ochenta y dos de Lilo-an”, which is held every April 30 as part of the activities celebrating the town’s fiesta. This aims to commemorate their heroic deeds during World War II by doing a floral offering to the monument of the heroes.
