Top 5 Destinations in You Shouldn’t miss when visiting Buruanga

 By: Ella Bernise F. Natal

It is a well-known fact the Philippines is home to a myriad of places that truly showcases the beauty and splendor of planet Earth. The province of Aklan, located in Western Visayas, with its 17 Municipalities, hides another gem besides the famous get-away destination we’ve come to know as ‘Boracay’. Come explore a hidden paradise that houses unknown caves just waiting to be explored, quiet coves perfect for relaxation, lush forests full of unique flora and fauna, and beaches with ivory white sand that could rival that of Boracay itself.

Buruanga, a coastal municipality in Aklan that is inhibited by an estimated population of 19,000 people, is also known as Aklan’s Secret Hideaway. Unlike its prominent cousin, Boracay, Buruanga has numerous places and tourist destinations that only a few have had the pleasure of seeing. A hidden gem within a treasure trove of glittering jewelries and trinkets.

Here are some of the places that you can visit:

1. Hinugtan Beach

A secluded beach away from the rest of the world, Hinugtan Beach is what Boracay looked like before modernization changed it into what it is now. Alabaster white sand surrounded by crystal blue waters as far as the eye can see; you would be hard-pressed to find a place as beautiful as this. The privacy of this beach adds a certain charm to it, because nowadays, beaches tend to be crowded. Hinugtan Beach gives you the chance to relax under the warm summer sun and bathe in its cool waters in peace, perfect for those who just want a nice and serene place to unwind.

2. Hacienda Maria

A 14-hectare land with a variety of stunning landscapes for those born with adventurous souls, Hacienda Maria is the place to be for people who love the outdoors. Bask in the magnificence of thousand-year-old stalactites and stalagmites within the caves found in Hacienda Maria. If spelunking isn’t for you, then maybe lounging in a giant jacuzzi is! The Hot Pot Jacuzzi is a popular activity involving a person jumping into a huge metal bowl with warm water infused with herbal leaves meant to soothe and relieve stress. Locals also treat visitors to experience the process of traditional coconut wine production (lambanog making). Lastly, enjoy the breath-taking waterfalls whilst sampling the local cuisine prepared just for you.

Test your courage diving from the different platforms ranging from as low as 3 meters (10 feet) up to as high as 15 meters (49 feet). The surrounding waters are home to a plethora of marine life which you’ll be able to witness by partaking in water activities like snorkeling and kayaking.
