Presidential spokesperson Harry Roque—a former human rights lawyer who recently failed to secure a seat in the International Law Commission (ILC) post and defended the killings, attacks on the rule of law, and poor pandemic response of President Duterte, will run for senator in the 2022 elections under Peoples’ Reform Party (PRP).

He is scheduled to file his Certificate of Candidacy to the Commission on Elections (COMELEC) central office by 2 p.m. today according to Presidential Communications Operations Office Undersecretary Queenie Rodulfo.

Few days ago, the ILC elects 34 members in the UN General Assembly and Roque gets the least number of votes in the bloc that Philippines belongs to.

Moreover, International Association of Democratic Lawyers said that Roque has arrogantly defended and justified even beyond the “call of duty” in his principal’s attacks on human rights, justice, rule of law, and due process under the Duterte regime.
